Fashion Blabbage #006 - Just Kidding, Let's Talk PixelVR

So, I know this post says Fashion Blabbage? But that’s kinda sorta... eh, not really the case. Today we are gonna discuss the growing feeling of virtual “personalities” being pushed out of social sites, the current fuss about flickr and the Second Life community, and a possible light at the end of the crisis tunnel: Pixel VR. A lot of reading, info and more below.

I suppose it could be considered Fashion Blabbage, since the media in particular, Flickr is where a lot of Second Life Bloggers and photographers pretty much go to, to express, share and advertise their craft.
The Flickr crisis going on currently that has been actually coming for a while, since SmugMug took over the company has been spoken about by several [1] [2] bloggers already. There is an overwhelming feeling to many that the second life community is in fact not welcome and being pushed out of the community. Along with the new rules to the free accounts, with  many having to download, delete, or even soon to abandon their flickr accounts if they don’t buy a pro account or change according to the new flickr rules and guidelines.
Lately, a lot of people have been flocking to Instagram as a solution, but the standards and guidelines there can be even stricter, especially for bloggers with more adult content tastes, as Instagram is a strict “General Audience” site. Also the quality content of Instagram is no match for the high resolution uploads on the Flickr website.

This is where I am going to introduce a possible light at the end of the tunnel. A site has gone live called Pixel VR. Created by Athayus Quan for the virtual community, this site has already begun to show as a safe haven for bloggers and photographers for the virtual community and to be a wonderful alternative and/or solution to the flickr crisis. Sign up is free and you are able to upload your images in a similar fashion as flickr, along with a few new features such as a live chat, where you can chat with your followers and they can live chat with you in return. Max upload size currently on his site is 12Mbs which gives many bloggers and photographers freedom to upload their images at their best quality.
The site is still young, with Athayus Quan making constant updates to bring the site to full quality, but is already an amazing site allowing users to be able to do what they are now fearing they are going to lose; their ability to feel welcome on a site and express their creativity on Second Life.

Athayus Quan also has other websites in the works that do similar, such as Social VR - A virtual social network that was created as an alternative to Facebook for virtual users that is also free to use. It’s currently in Beta, but also is a wonderful alternative that has similar features.
I do want to strongly encourage users to support sites like this. With so many places kinda fading off from use, we need to support those that want to make a place that we can all be comfortable sharing our virtual worlds. Sites such as these can only survive and grow to be as great as what we want if we use it, back it up, and give the people making them support, encouragement, and suggestions to improve. Hopefully I will see some of you add me on both of these sites and see your wonderful work and lives as well virtually. ♥
